Landing in 12th century England, Clara and the Doctor meet Robin Hood, the actual chivalrous thief who the Doctor is convinced is just a myth. Soon after, they encounter the real Sheriff of Nottingham, who leads a group of knights — robot knights.

Living up to his reputation, the sheriff plans to use his robots to rebuild a crashed spaceship and then take over the world. But the Doctor realizes that the repairs will actually make the ship explode, destroying half of England in the process.

It’s the Time Lords sending the question in order to return to the universe, and everyone else in the galaxy wants to stop that. The Doctor is caught in the middle between defending the people of Trenzaore and keeping the Time Lords from invading the universe. And he also must come to grips with his impending mortality.
