Love is Blind — Marriage is the Eye Opener

I got married. It’s almost a whole year of being married. It’s an interesting journey and I love my wife. For the wedding, I was planning on saying some elaborate thank you speech. However, with all the hustle and bustle of planning the wedding, I forgot about it.

Still, I wrote a couple of potential speeches. The following is partly from before the wedding, but now I edited a bit.

It all starts with a quote.

Love is blind — marriage is the eye-opener.
— Pauline Thomason

Who is Pauline Thomason? I dont know.

Regardless, it’s true.

A common phrase is “Love is blind” and well, marriage is an eye opener. What you saw before is almost the same, but you get even more. If you don’t live together, now you can see how the other person lives; and that’s an eye opener. From a guy’s perspective, you see hair that isn’t yours on the ground or in the shower — new weird devices used for crimping hair, or curling it are now randomly placed across the bathroom counter. All I knew was just the hair dryer and a comb, maybe a hair clip, but all these other things? How peculiar. And then there’s that cylindrical Polly-O string cheese looking shape thing that is in a paper wrapper (Note, it’s not string cheese at all).

But that’s just the surface of it all. It’s just me being silly. What will happen is that your eyes will open and you’ll see the person you love in new eyes. This isn’t just your “significant other” anymore… it’s your life mate. It’s the person that will feed you soup when you’re ill [or maybe cook you (instant) ramen if that’s your healing source of choice]. The one to hold your hand at a family’s funeral. The one who will hug you at the end of a bad day…or even on a good day or an average day. This is the person you not only still love, but you’re married to (for life).

They’ll be bad times, this is just known as that is just the way of life at times — Ups and downs, like a roller coaster.  But keep your eyes open, so you can see the person who is next to you, who stands with you in spite of tough times. Keep your eyes open and see who’s hand you’re holding. Keep your eyes open to see the one you love looking back at you.  Love can be blind, but marriage is the eye opener.

Technically, as a thank you speech, it doesn’t quite work since I didn’t quite include a “thank you” part. It was really just my thoughts on marriage and what it means to me. And now that I have some experience as a married person, I have to say, I like it. I love coming home to my wife. I love sleeping next to her and waking up to her.

I’m happy.

The Meaning of True Love

Movies and books and most any “love stories” often have an explanation of what true love is or what it can do.  True love will find one another like Snow White and Prince Charming in the show Once Upon A Time.  Death cannot stop true love for Wesley and Buttercup in The Princess Bride

But what does true love mean to me?

Butt cheeks.

True love to me is two butt cheeks.  Because no matter what crap happens between you two, you remain together. It may get dirty, and probably stink at times, but you remain together.

It just is right.

Have you ever seen a one-cheeked person? I haven’t, but I imagine it’d be peculiar, interesting, and then mildly sad. When they sit down, they’ll always be at a slant and feel like they just parked on a hill. It’s like something is missing.

What’s true love mean to you?

Men Have Penises and Women Have Vaginas…

Because my mind is weird like that….

So. They say men have better hand eye coordination cause of like the old school innate hunting skills of way back when. So it’s embedded in our psyche slightly. but really, I think it just boils down to anatomy.

Not to say men are born with better eyesight or a bigger brain to process motion and movement and aim or whatnot. Simply put, we have penises. And when we pee, we have to aim to make sure we don’t pee on ourselves. Additionally, for the most part, I hope we aim so we hit the urinal or the toilet and not the ground (when applicable).

So with such practice, it just makes sense that it correlates to better general hand eye coordination.

or am i just crazy?

or sexist?

or simply dumb?

Danny-etics – Meta-sophical

ok.

time to get metasophical or something… metaphore philosophical or something. actually, its more of a simile than anything else.

but…

you. me. life. we are all just cigarettes. cause no matter how we taste, or look, or size, or feel, eventually, we’re put out or go out. we run our course. and some of us get put out before we’re technically done. and its sad cause you think, ‘hey… you’re not done yet… you still got some left to be smoked.’ but thats neither here nor there…it just is. (and you enjoy it while its still smoking. and the ashes are just means for a memory).

but the end is all the same. in the end, we’re just butts. there’s no further use. and we’re discarded and put into the dirt or sand or whatnot. extinguished. done.

and we all might last a different length of time. no matter how long the cigarette, even if its smoked to the end, all you have left is the filter. once you hit that theres no more smoking to be had. no more living.

theres a finite end. we just don’t know how long its gonna last. or if we’re gonna get put out before we reach the end.

and i suppose the inevitable question is… who’s smoking us? you could say god, God, Buddha, Jesus, or jsut plain ol Mother Nature, like we’re just a burning leaf and the passing wind is fueling us.

but thats just my random philosophical idea i had when i was driving. and i was wondering… when it will end. but acknowledging it does end. … like a cigarette.
